As illustrated in the previous chapters, there are several jobs, roles and responsibilities in the housekeeping department in a hotel. We will review the duties of each roles in this chapter.
Executive Housekeeper:
- Oversee and manage the entire housekeeping department.
- Develop and implement cleaning standards, policies, and procedures.
- Plan and schedule housekeeping staff shifts and assignments.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient operations.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Train and supervise housekeeping staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Address guest complaints or issues related to housekeeping.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of housekeeping staff.
- Assign cleaning tasks and inspect work to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Train new employees and provide ongoing guidance.
- Maintain stock levels of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Report maintenance issues or repair needs to the engineering department.
- Handle guest requests and complaints promptly and effectively.
- Assist in conducting performance evaluations.
Housekeeping Supervisor:
Room Attendant/Housekeeper:
- Clean and maintain guest rooms, including making beds, dusting, vacuuming, and mopping floors.
- Restock amenities such as toiletries, towels, and linens.
- Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
- Adhere to cleaning standards and guidelines.
- Follow proper procedures for handling lost and found items.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of guest belongings.
- Assist with laundry tasks, including sorting, washing, and folding linens when required.
- Respond to guest requests or inquiries promptly and courteously.
- Clean and maintain the cleanliness of public areas, including lobbies, corridors, elevators, and restrooms.
- Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, and dust surfaces.
- Empty trash and replace trash bags as needed.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
- Restock supplies, such as tissues, soaps, and paper towels.
- Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a tidy and organized work environment.
Public Area Attendant/Houseman/Houseperson:
Laundry Attendant:
- Sort, wash, dry, and fold linens, towels, and other hotel laundry items.
- Operate laundry equipment and maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
- Inspect laundered items for quality and ensure they meet standards.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Track inventory of clean and dirty linens and report shortages.
- Assist in ironing, pressing, and steaming clothes if required.
- Handle guest laundry requests and ensure timely delivery.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of laundry attendants.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of linens and supplies.
- Ensure proper laundering and storage of linens.
- Train new employees on laundry procedures and equipment operation.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of laundry equipment.
- Maintain records of inventory, laundry usage, and costs.
- Assist in performance evaluations and scheduling.
